Reminisce and Imagine... on your first anniversary

Your 1st Anniversary is a momentous one.  You have made the choice to spend a lifetime with another person - you've imagined, theorized, contemplated, but until you actually say "I do" it isn't reality.  Your first year together tests the reality, and your Anniversary celebrates the reality.  This isn't a moment that typically includes family or friends, more often its private - the two of you.  A romantic interlude to contemplate that first step in your lives together.  

 

Typically, before the wedding, most of your time is spent considering the concept of marriage itself.  "I will be someone's wife" or "I will be someone's husband."  Most couples don't think too far past the big day.  But on your 1st Anniversary, there's a subtle shift.  You've survived that initial test that tells you that you have selected well, found your soul mate, and now its time to start considering where life will lead.  Most marriage counselors will say that one identifier to a good relationship is that a couple plans together.  If you are thinking happy thoughts and expecting great things in your future, your present is probably pretty good. 

 

So, take a moment on your 1st Anniversary to remember your commitments and vows to each other, then spend some time thinking about the future.

• What do you expect life will be like in 10, 20, or 30 years? 
• What would you like to be doing together when you are retired and shy a few teeth?
• If life were without limits, what wishes and dreams would you make come true? 

You're not going to agree on everything, and this isn't meant to be a negotiation.  Nothing is set in stone, it's simply imagining the possibilities together.  No matter how outlandish, have fun in your discovery of your future together.
