Your guide to throwing a fabulous 1970's Disco Party
The 70s are all about disco. Our first image when we think about the 70's is the cool image of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever, with his flashy leisure suit look, dancing to disco music..DO you remember?.... Donna Summer, the Bee Gees, Earth Wind and Fire, Gloria Gaynor, Lionel Richie, Peaches & Herb, and The Village People. The great thing about the 1970s is it was full of variety throughout the decade. Don't settle on just one theme for your 70s party. Combine the various trends and events of the decade to throw a wild and crazy bash from the past!
Music - the 70s were a time for amazing music. Songs from 40 years ago are still in circulation today - my young children can sing along to songs my mom was grooving to - very little in our world has that kind of shelf life! You can put a 70s collection on from your cable, XM, Sirius, or an on-line resource, or you can find a great party mix that has the music every one of your guests will recognize and start swaying to. Consider the following:
Activities - Trivia for this time period is easy to come by. Even Trivial Pursuit has come up with a 70s edition! You can keep it simple and just have questionnaires for your guests to try and answer, or you can play "Who Am I" with a 60s/70s theme. There are a lot of premade games and DVDs that follow this theme as well.
You can also get inspiration from the movies of that time period as well, and have one playing softly in the background. Whether it was made in the 60s/70s or it's current with a 60s/70s backdrop, this is a good background element for your party.

Much of the 60s and 70s entertainment era has become classic for us now, even campy cult classic. You add one of these additional elements in with your themes, or you can even have everyone dress up as a famous 70's person! Consider Farah Fawcett, Rocky, Nixon, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Rocky Horror Picture Show characters, Bo Derek, Hendrix, or even a Star Wars character! You have two decades to work with, your guests could have a lot of fun getting into this!
