  Twilight Theme

Planning

Celebrate evening as the Theme for your party - there is so much to draw inspiration from!  The deep blue of the twilight sky, the sparkle of millions of stars, candlelight and soft music floating in on a gentle breeze.  This is a party that is made for mood lighting, great conversation and excellent music.  It's actually quite easy to put together to create the mood, and goes with any type of food or event.

  • Use soft blue material with white sparkling lights strung behind it.  You can use a sheer material, or make holes for the lights to twinkle through.  The fabric doesn't have to be everywhere, just in focal points and to soften hard corners that you have.

  • String white sparkling lights in any plants you have in the space or around railings or other infrastructure that will support them.  You can take a length of blue fabric and wrap after the lights (keeping the lights peeking out) to cover wires.

  • You'll hate yourself in the morning, but sprinkle silver glitter gently on surfaces and the floor.

  • Using fishing line, you can hang silver stars (purchase or make with posterboard and spray paint or glue/glitter) at different lengths to create a three dimensional sky effect.

  • Using large sections of cardboard or plywood, if you are reeeeaaaaalllly crafty you can create cut outs of a city skyline with holes spaced periodically and backlighting with rope light.  About 5 or 6 feet high is perfect.  A little spray paint and some skill with cutting and this makes an amazing focal point.

  • Place softly flickering candles throughout your space (careful to place them where they won't get bumped!!).

  • Float some gardenias or jasmine in bowls to give the scent of a summer night.  The smell of flowers is a perfect accompaniment to a twilight theme.

  • Music can be most genres if it's got a softer rhythm to it.  Nothing too loud or hard or you'll spoil your mood.  If you want to really get into the mood consider going old school with Bennet, Sinatra or Harry Connick Jr.

  • Get a little glamorous with refreshments.  This soft, sophisticated setting just doesn't play well with hamburgers and hotdogs!  Go a little above and beyond with some amazing appetizers or even a sit down meal.  Drinks are the same - try a selection of delicious wines, or some sophisticated cocktails - a martini bar would go very nicely with the mood you are creating!
