Necessity is the mother of invention….  And man did I have a NEED!  As an attorney for the Federal government with a career driven (i.e. REALLY busy) husband and three small children I found I never had time to entertain they way I wanted to because just planning an event overwhelmed my limited schedule.  My office was filled with similarly situated women (and men!) who wanted to host the coolest parties for their kids (or themselves!), but just didn’t have the time to Plan and Prepare, let alone Enjoy

Specifically, when my daughter turned four I wanted to plan a Princess Party for her – so I jumped on-line for ideas.  I found one site with great party ideas that was organized very poorly, another site that had venues and vendors local to my metro area, but not the suburban area where I lived, several other sites had party activity ideas, and finally a bunch of sites offered cool products.  By the time I was done printing, organizing, creating bookmarks and tracking, I found myself wondering WHY wasn’t all of this in one place?  And WHY hadn’t anyone created a widget that would allow me to organize it all?  If everything is easier with the “information superhighway”, how come I felt like I needed a GPS?

And so a seed was planted, but although I may have been a Party Planner trapped in the life of an attorney, I wasn’t a web-site designer, a database expert, a search engine optimizer, a marketing expert or an MBA.  All I had was the inspiration.  Fortunately, all the missing elements were within my own family!  My mother has been professionally designing and optimizing websites for over a decade, my uncle is a database expert who helped create Lotus, and my brother has run his own business and has an amazing mind for marketing and cutting edge technology.  Not to mention my husband who is an MBA and spent several years as a consultant with a prestigious firm helping companies get better at what they do.

Huh.  There it was.  All the elements to help chronic multi-tasking over-achievers like me simplify at least one small element of our lives.  Help Me Host It! became a reality, and I unexpectedly had a great career change!
